Data Insights – 2017 Labour Force Rates

Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey findings indicate that the Halton labour force is running at full capacity. Halton Region’s unemployment rate averaged 4.0% in 2017 – its lowest level since the pre-recessionary rates witnessed in 2007.  Halton’s low rate ofJan 29 2017Halton Unemployment rate trends unemployment is a testament to the high demand for Halton’s highly skilled resident labour force.  Recent Census figures show that Halton residents have among the highest levels of educational attainment in Canada.

Compared to Toronto and Hamilton CMAs, as well as provincial and national averages, the Halton labour force is outperforming with a significantly lower unemployment rate (4.0%) and higher labour participation rate (70.3%).
