2016 – New Year, New Beginning

With the beginning of the year we typically see many new clients who want to take the

first step into entrepreneurship. At the Halton Small Business Centre, we can help make those first steps easy.

We want to ensure that all new business owners start off on the right foot and receive the relevant information without burdening them with “information overload.”  To help accomplish this, we host a weekly information session entitled Getting Started.  In this session, staff will guide you through a checklist of things you should consider when starting a new business.  The sessions are casual, informative small groups of five or less.

After the session, participants are welcome to tour the centre and see the other resources which are available.

Another excellent service for entrepreneurs is our various seminars held throughout the year.  Topics include:

  • Starting a Small Business
  • Writing a Business Plan
  • Understanding Financial Basics
  • Marketing – Research and Cost Effective Ideas
  • First Steps in Exporting
  • First Steps in Importing

These seminars are held in partnership with the local public libraries in the communities within Halton.

For youth who are considering entrepreneurship this year, we host monthly information sessions on two specific youth business programs – Starter Company and Futurpreneur Canada.

Starter Company Program is an entrepreneurship program geared to help young people in Ontario between the ages of 18 and 29. It provides training, mentoring and a possible micro-grant of up to $5,000 for eligible participants.  The monthly information sessions provide an overview of the program and eligibility criteria.

Futurpreneur Canada is a national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentoring and support tools to aspiring business owners aged 18-39. The monthly information sessions provide an overview of the program and eligibility criteria.

Running a business can be one of the most fulfilling and challenging jobs you can have.  If you are considering starting a small business this year, we highly recommend attending an information session.  Get the information needed for a successful business and New Year!
