Now in its third year, the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition is open and accepting submissions up to Friday, March 6, 2015!
With so many of today’s secondary school students thinking of career choices, it’s important for them to consider entrepreneurship as a viable option. The Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition enables Ontario high school students in grades 9 to 12 to come up with a business idea, produce a two-minute video pitching their idea and submit it through the competition’s website (along with a signed letter of consent and a typed transcript of their video). Twenty finalists are chosen to travel to Toronto to pitch their ideas at the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) Discovery Conference.
Competition Dates and Deadlines:
- Video submission deadline: Friday, March 6, 2015 at 12 p.m.
- Voting Period: from Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 9:00 am to Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 1 p.m.
During this period, a panel of judges from across Ontario score the videos. As well, the public can view the submissions on the website and vote for their favourite videos. The combined scores and votes determine the finalists of the competition.
- Finalists Notified: Friday, April 10, 2015
Once all finalists have been notified, the finalists’ videos will be posted on the competition homepage.
- OCE Discovery Conference: Finalists will receive a trip to Toronto where they will participate in programming from April 26 – 28, 2015 with accommodations in downtown Toronto.
Finalists will pitch their ideas live during the Conference. From the live pitches, six winners will be selected and presented with reserved entry into the Summer Company program (Ontario’s young entrepreneur program) where they can develop and run their business while receiving up to $3,000 in a cash award. The winning students will also receive a prize package.
This is the third year that the Halton Small Business Centre has promoted this successful program in partnership with the Provincial Government. Staff from the Small Business Centre are available to speak on entrepreneurship and the competition at local high schools.
