As a small business owner you are always looking for resourceful ways of growing your business.  At the Halton Small Business Centre, we help new and existing entrepreneurs find the right resources.  Whether developing a business or marketing plan, finding the right resources can play a vital role in business development.

Start with the Halton Small Business Centre!Resources can come in different formats such as a webpage link, handout, guide or a book.  How do you decide which resources are important and which ones are not? We can help. The big questions may be: “where do I look to find these resources.”  First you need to consider whether you want to spend money or if you want to take advantage of what you can find for free.  There are plenty of free resources online such as:

Halton Small Business Enterprise Centre
One of the goals of Halton Region’s Small Business Centre is to empower small and medium-sized enterprises and give them the tools to achieve success.

Ministry of Economic Development and Trade
The ministry’s site is designed to help small to medium enterprises.  Whether you are starting a business or growing a business you can find an abundance of resources that will help to define and grow your business.

Canada Business promotes entrepreneurship and innovation, and provides assistance through an organized network of service centres across Canada.

You will find guides that are designed to help you navigate through federal and provincial government programs, services and regulations that may apply to entrepreneurs.

BizPaL is your online source of information on permits and licenses.  It is jointly managed by a partnership involving governments at the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal levels.

Export Development Canada (EDO)
Export Development Canada provides Canadian exporters with financing, insurance and bonding services as well as foreign market expertise.  What does it mean to be export ready?  If exporting is part of your business, you will want to visit this site.

Industry Canada – Business
The site contains information on companies, statistics, financing, innovation, research, science and technology, intellectual property, radio, spectrum and telecommunications, regional and rural development, regulations and standards, sustainability and environment, as well as trade and investment.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada – Doing Business Abroad
The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service can help your company succeed globally

The site is rich with stories for entrepreneurs at every stage of development.

RBC Royal Bank
The RCB has lots of information for entrepreneurs including starting, managing, financing and growing a business.

Canada Border Services Agency – Importing
This site contains information for businesses that are considering the option of importing commercial goods into Canada.

Canadian Intellectual Property Office
You will find patent, trade-mark and copyright information and learn about industrial designs.
