As we near the end of December and the start of a new year, it is timely for small business owners to look back at their last 12 months and reflect on the progress that was made in their business. If you met the goals that were set out in your business plan – congratulations! It is important to write down and share your accomplishments as well as identify what worked to help you achieve your business goals. If your business did not achieve all of its goals, don’t despair. Take stock of your achievements and assess what exactly is holding you back from realizing success. Have a realistic look at your product or service, your pricing and promotion strategies and see what is working and what is not. Taking the time to reflect now will strengthen your business planning for the year ahead and point you in the right direction for success.
Here at Halton Region’s Small Business Centre, we work with entrepreneurs and small business owners in all stages of their business ventures. We understand the importance and the role of business planning in the success of a business. Our business consultants are available to meet with you to assist in developing an initial business plan – to get your business off the ground, and we can help established small businesses in tweaking their annual business plans for greater success.
We enjoyed a busy and successful year working with our partners in providing business seminars across the region and most importantly, we have worked with numerous entrepreneurs whose well thought out plans and sheer determination will lead to the creation of new jobs and economic wealth in our community. If you have not seen it yet, our 2011 schedule of Small Business Centre seminars and outreach activities is available on our website.
In August, we began using social media tools, including Twitter, Facebook and this blog, to further our outreach to the small business community. What began as a pilot project is now a very important way in which we communicate with our audience. Thank you for your posts, follows and re-tweets!
In 2011, Halton Region will be undertaking a new comprehensive economic development strategy and the support for small businesses in this region will be an important part of this strategy.
This will be our last blog of the year, as the Small Business Centre will be closed for the holidays from Friday, December 24th to Friday, December 31st. We will be open again for business on Monday, January 3rd. At this time, we would like to thank all of our small business customers and readers who have made this year a special one for the Halton Small Business Centre.
By all accounts, 2011 will be a busy and exciting year for the Small Business Centre. We hope that it will be a successful year for all of our small business owners. Happy Holidays and see you in the New Year!
